What is the process after an application is submitted?
- Our HR team reviews applications to identify qualified candidates. (Please note we cannot respond to every application.)
- Qualified candidates are invited to do a telephone screening.
- The most qualified candidates will be invited to an in-person or virtual interview. Common Sense typically conducts 2 to 3 rounds of interviews in the hiring process.
- References will be solicited from our final candidates. (Please note that some positions will require additional background checks.)
- A formal written job offer will be made to our top final candidate.

Head of Research
San Francisco, CA (partial remote work possible)
Salary Range: $140,000 - $190,000
The Head of Research will lead the development and execution of a mission-aligned research agenda, overseeing multiple annual research projects about the role of media and technology in the lives of children and families. This position will focus on research that increases public awareness while providing opportunities for a healthy path forward for children. This person will engage with internal and external stakeholders to build awareness of the impact of media and technology on children's healthy development, and frame key issues, foster public dialogue and policy reform, and inform our content and programs.
Media Reviewer, Podcasts (Contractor)
Remote
The equity-focused podcast reviewer will use their subject-matter expertise to consume, evaluate, and write about entertainment content for parents through the lenses of child development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). With excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, this contract role will produce anywhere from one to 10 new podcast reviews per month. Work may also include updates to previously published reviews. We are committed to hiring reviewers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Regional Director, Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA
Salary Range: $111,200 - $132,050
The Los Angeles (LA) Regional Director will serve as the lead ambassador and representative, strategist, front-line fundraiser, and public face of Common Sense in Southern California. Their primary goal is to help unlock the impact and resources of key stakeholders in LA to serve the mission of Common Sense. To that end, they will collaborate with the CEO and other staff to build and manage the organization's relationships in Hollywood, identify and generate strategic opportunities or partnerships with the media and entertainment industry, drive regional cultivation events, and work with independent schools based in the region.
Senior Developer
San Francisco, CA, or remote
Salary Range: $111,200 - $166,250
We are currently seeking an experienced full-stack engineer with strong front-end skills to join a team of developers, QA engineers, product managers, and UX designers who work closely with UI designers led by a creative director. This role will help build and maintain all things client-facing and will help translate our organization and customer needs into functionally seamless and appealing interactive applications. Creating a great user experience is a focal point of this role, and the ideal candidate is curious about new digital technologies and stays abreast of coding best practices. There are also likely to be back-end tasks and problems to solve. This role will collaborate with a top-notch team of developers on a feature-rich, responsive site and help build personalized and social site experiences to help connect members with each other and the rest of the world.
Senior Director, California Policy

The Senior Director for California Policy is responsible for developing and executing Common Sense's California policy and advocacy priorities and representing Common Sense's overall mission and values in Sacramento and across the state. The role includes developing and moving legislation, working with the executive branch and state agencies, and managing advocacy partnerships.
